Care For A New Born Baby

Babies do not come with a manual and no books, websites or experiences of others can teach you how to take care of your baby. The biggest learning comes when you become a mother and have the real experience of taking care of your baby. Though a mother understands her baby the most, however, it is important to have a few tips handy before your baby comes to this world. Motherhood can be overwhelming for women. Mothers feel clueless at the very beginning. At times, the tips from an experienced person matter a lot more than the techniques any book or internet would suggest. Below are a few tips for all new mothers:

Take help from elders

Who does not love to be around babies? Especially grandparents are the people who eagerly wait for the arrival of a little soul, so that they can spend their time taking care, playing around and passing their time. After the child is born, there will be lot going on and it is impossible for a mother to take care of everything perfectly. At that point, paternal or maternal side elders come as blessing. A mother can request the elders to help with the household work and she can completely focus on herself and on the baby. If you are a working mother and in trouble with all the responsibilities, do not hesitate to ask for help, as family is there to help you with every possible thing in your life.

Tips about using diaper and diaper rash cream

Tips about using diaper and diaper rash cream

It is an important part of the baby care. As parents, you must change the diaper of the baby once in 2-3 hours every day. Continuous use of diaper might cause rashes.  You should keep the rash cream handy. Additionally, it is advisable to keep the baby diaper free in some part of the day. Putting a mild cream or coconut oil at the time of changing diapers avoids rashes most of the times. (Read our post, Best Natural Diaper Rash Cream)

Dealing with infections

New born babies pose the lowest level of immunity and there is a maximum possibility for the babies to catch infections.  Generally, parents should try to keep babies away from infections in the very first few weeks of parenthood. To prevent the infections, you must follow some basic practices.

  • Washing hands before touching the baby
  • Proper use of hand sanitizers to keep the viruses and infectors away
  • No kissing on the most sensitive parts i.e. face and mouth
  • Regular bath to the baby keeping the baby clean
  • Keep your baby away from any sick persons
  • Carefully choose your baby products. Consult the doctor before applying any of the items.

Relief to the baby

Babies generally suffer from colic and cry a lot during that time. Swaddling calms a baby. Sometimes changing environment, shoulder walking, and walking around calm the baby too. You will need to try a few things and then use whichever remedy suits your baby. Care must be taken to keep the baby away from noises, which might disturb the sleep of the baby.

baby bath

Bath basics

It is fine to bathe the baby two or three times a week in the first year. Use soft clean, washcloth, unscented body shop or shampoo, soft brush, towel, clean diaper for bath. Gently massage the soap on your baby’s body with luke warm water and slowly wash away the foam. Dry your baby’s body using a dry cloth.

Holding baby

Holding baby

New born babies are delicate. They need all the care parents could give them. Initially parents get nervous about holding their babies. However, it is not as difficult as it looks. You have to hold with both hands and the neck. You have to hold them close to yourself giving them the warmth. The touch of the parents is most soothing for a baby.

Dressing babies

Overdressing can be dangerous. Babies cannot speak so you and parents will have to understand what they want. It is always advisable to put only one more layer of clothes on the baby’s body, in addition to what adults wear in general. Over dressing might increase over heating making the baby uncomfortable.

Keep your baby awake during feeding

It is a general observation that babies fall asleep during breast feeding. Once they sleep in the middle, they are not much likely to eat any more. It is advisable to keep the baby awake with only a gentle stroke on their cheeks with the fingertip. Make sure your baby has her stomach full and then sleeps so that you also will not be disturbed in the middle of the night.

Nothing is more precious to a mother than the baby is. Every moment is precious for mother. In that situation, it is important to give the best possible care to the toddlers in the initial days of their life. Because once those moments of motherhood are gone, nothing can bring them back.
